Designing Green
We've all been hearing about it-- environmental issues are affecting the planet. And buildings have a large impact. So, what is "green?" And how can we implement sustainable design into our exisiting homes, new homes to be built, and communities as a whole? Key Designs LLC can help.
According to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), in the United States, buildings account for:
- 36% of total energy use/65% of electricity consumption
- 30% of greenhouse gas emmisions
- 30% of raw material use
- 30% of waste output/136 million tons annually
- 12% of potable water consumption
The USGBC defines "green building" as “the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings use resources — energy, water, and materials — while reducing building impacts on human health and the environment, through better siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal — the complete building life cycle.”
Key Designs LLC can help homeowners, remodelers, and builders attain the proven environmental, economic, and health and community benefits by understanding the guidelines (and soon-to-arrive codes) and making them work for you, and the planet.
